Shepherd's Pie

Shepherd's pie, also known as cottage pie is a ground meat pie topped with mashed potatoes. This is the best lazy day dish, taking about 30-45 minutes to prepare.

INGREDIENTS
FOR THE MINCE:
1kg ground mince
2 tbsp canola oil/olive oil
1 small onion (chopped)
2 crushed garlic cloves
2 cups frozen mixed veggies
spices of your choice
1 tsp salt
1 tsp pepper
30ml Worcestershire sauce
1 cup water or beef stock pot
1 tbsp corn flour
FOR THE MASHED POTATO
8 large potatoes
1 1/2 cup milk
1 cup cheddar cheese
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
1 tsp pepper
1 tbsp butter
1 tbsp dried parsley (optional)
HOW TO
FOR THE MINCE:
Sauté onion in oil.
Add ground beef.
Add spices of your choice, salt and pepper.
Fry until meat is browned.
Add minced garlic and Worcestershire sauce.
Cook for a minute.
Add cup of water or beef stock pot.
Add mixed veggies and mix.
Add corn flour and mix well, allow to simmer until thick.
FOR THE MASH:
Peel, chop and boil potatoes until they are soft.
Drain the potatoes, add butter, salt, pepper and milk and mash until smooth.
Add baking powder then mix and allow to fluff up.
Add grated cheddar cheese and mixed until cheese is melted.
PUT TOGETHER:
Pour mince into a casserole dish and level out.
Top with the mashed potatoes and also level out, leave a bit to pipe.
Add left over mash into piping bag fitted with a large 1M tip and pipe on-top. This step is optional.
Bake in a pre-heated oven (180 degrees Celsius) for about 30 minutes or until mas is golden brown.
You can enjoy this dish with some green salad or with some garlic bread.
